I wanted to like this one more than I did. I didn't have trouble reading it, and the plot is okay, and the guys are okay, and I liked that the ending was not pat, that there's more. The best part were all the details about Okinawa. Solid three stars for setting and good characters and acceptable plot.However: Great as these dads are, and visceral as their attraction feels, they still read a little flat to me, and part of that is because they say the exact same phrases, as if they were raised in the same town. "Don't worry about it." "Don't mention it." "Tell me about it." and a few more. All the time. Part of learning to write fiction is getting past our own habits of speech to make each character unique. I know this because I am learning by writing a book. It's not easy. But an editor should've pointed this out. That is what a good editor is for.

Well written words. Great dialogue. Two points of view, no misunderstadings on how anyone felt. If you want it there is meaning and passion behind L A Witt's words
Lots of time given to Eric and Shane. Great lead in to let you know how difficult it is moving away from family
How hard it is to be deployed overseas
Sexy
Romantic
Nice, realistic relationship building with no instant declarations of love. You learn how they fall for each other, you are not just thrown a bone of - "oh, hey, they're in love, consider yourself told, deal with it."They have many things in common including children from previous marriages, all of which is explained.
Great protagonists
Tremendous backdrop of and detail given to Okinawa
DADT may not be in force anymore but being gay in the services is not good for your career. That is true.
DO NOT be in love with an enlisted man if you are an officer or vice versa
I wanted these guys to get a good ending
Did I day sexy, I know I did, but I had to go there again
If you like 'em alpha, yet flexible, sexy, yet romantic, if you like scorching kissing, the cover does NOT lie, then go for it and read Conduct Unbecoming
If you are looking for short and shallow then you'll be disappointed. This is anything but.
My favourite L A Witt book so far

L. A. Witt is normally one of my favorite authors. Not this time.
Unlike her other work, this one was almost staggeringly dull. The usual sex scenes (though uninspired and a lot less than hot here) interrupted, primarily, by endlessly detailed travelogues. We get it, Ms. Witt, you know Okinawa. But really, endless chapters on the goods in the shopping districts, visits to all kinds of temples and memorials, and even two surprisingly dull snorkeling outings that were little more than a list of the fish and other sea creatures encountered.
I read the whole book, because I was hoping for something dramatic, or surprising, or exciting, but was left with nothing even interesting.
Let's face it, a book about gays in the military used to be dramatic until DADT was repealed. This book's only conflict was that one of the MCs was an officer, and one an enlisted man, both risking their 20-year-pensions by being together, despite the fact that both had failed their children miserably, by being absentee parents for years-on-end all over the world, courtesy of the Navy.
Pardon the pun, but this one just didn't float my boat...
I wanted to like this more than I did. The main characters were funny and the chemistry was pretty good, but the neverending tourist trip through Okinawa was mind numbing. I skimmed through numerous pages just to get past all the blah blah blah marketplace and yadda yadda yadda castles. The conflict was sprinkled sparingly throughout the book, none of which was surprising or nail biting. Problems were quickly solved or just brushed aside with a "this could be bad, but I can't quit you" brush. All in all, the book wasn't terrible, but if you're looking for something that hits you in the feels, this isn't it. However, if you've always wanted to visit Okinawa and will never have the chance, settle in and enjoy the ride. Ms. Witt wrote this book just for you.
